Day 11 - Lights, Curtains, Action

So I may have missed posting Day 10.  I didn't just 'Jedi mind trick' you and tell you that it never happened.  It did happen.  It was just spent with the processing of getting a new hot water heater put in (Thanks Malachi).  Therefore, no time was found for blogging.  That's ok, though.  No harm done.  So, onto Day 11!  One of the constants thus far over the past few weeks is that I really haven't gotten out of the house with Ellie or if I did, it was only for a grand total of a couple of hours.  It's important to me though that I'm still able to get out of the house and enjoy time away from home while she's tiny and can be toted around with ease.  If my time outside of the house fits within the constraints of Ellie's busy schedule, then I should be able to make it work.

One of the most difficult times of any Monday, or whatever Bethany's first day back at work is, is getting Ellie to accept the fact that her mommy is gone and she's going to have to deal with her daddy for the day.  I wish that I could just key her in on this fact early and have her accept it.  Unfortunately, things really don't work that way.  As Bethany prepared to leave this morning, she gave Ellie a goodbye kiss on the forehead before walking out the door to the garage and to her car.  The moment that her garage door slammed shut, Ellie's sixth sense seemingly kicked in and alerted her to the fact that Mommy was gone.  She made certain to make her displeasure known with her equivalent of the Vader "No" scene from 'Revenge of the Sith'.

After getting Ellie calmed down and asleep for her morning nap, my master plans could come to fruition.  One of my friends had invited a couple of us over to his house for breakfast at 8:00 so I was definitely going to take the opportunity to get some guy time in, even if it came complete with a baby girl in a car seat with her pink and white blanket.  Manly, eh?  I made it over to Tyler's with Ellie fast asleep in her car seat.  As I sat Ellie down on the floor, Tyler's dog Oakley lumbered over to say hello.  I hoped that Ellie would not freak out if she opened her eyes to the one-eyed visage of Oakley staring back at her.  Fortunately, Ellie briefly slit her eyes open, looked at Oakley, and then passed back out.  I'm not sure though if that reaction means she's a dog person or a cat person (or both) but I'll take it.

We stayed at Tyler's until about 10:30 and then left to head to Lowe's.  A baby girl's first trip to Lowe's should be cause for celebration even if it's only to buy some very girly curtains for her bedroom and a bottle of Gorilla Glue.  After a short walk around the store, we headed to checkout.  At this moment, Ellie lost her patience and began screaming at the checkout lady.  The poor lady was unable to find the barcode for Ellie's new curtains in the store's inventory and call other people within the store before she could check us out.  Ellie had really gotten excited about these curtains and didn't want anything to delay her from owning them.  Or it was the fact that she had gotten hungry.  One of the two, not sure.   After a short delay consisting of me attempting to entice my daughter with a pacifier while enduring the stares of fellow shoppers and employees, I proudly headed out of Lowe's with my purchase in one hand and my screaming baby in the other.  Even if I had waited a little too long to head home, the fact remains that Ellie and I were able to get out of the house for over four hours.  I'm willing to consider that a win!

Hey, hey, hey, hey.  Ooh woh
