Day 249 - Is a little privacy too much to ask for?

It's been fourteen months and counting since I had any kind of privacy in my life. Ok, that may be slightly inaccurate. After all, I have been married for seven years (Don't worry Bethany; I'm just kidding). In all seriousness, I have noticed that it's nearly impossible to get away from Ellie especially since she became mobile. I love my daughter very much but there are times when a little break would be appreciated. I'm not asking for much; just for her to entertain herself for a few minutes and keep out of trouble. Today marked one of those days.

Or, you know, just me...

After a fun-filled morning of activities, I found myself suddenly summoned by nature. Most of the time, I try to manage my days accordingly so Ellie is asleep when that occurs. I'm guessing that's a relatively normal thing for parents to do so I'd appreciate it if you stopped with your judging eyes. Therefore, without any better alternative, I headed into the bathroom, leaving the door open behind me. My logic behind that being it would enable me to keep better tabs on Ellie to ensure she stayed out of mischief. Ha, as if that would ever happen.

Ellie briefly would sit in the hallway watching my every move before losing interest and moving on down the hallway. While I wasn't certain where my daughter had wandered, I really wasn't concerned. After all, if I needed to be concerned, I'm sure I would have some kind of audible clue to help me out. Honestly, I didn't really expect Ellie to return quickly at all. So imagine my surprise when she peeked her little head around the corner once again.

The only difference being she wasn't alone this time. You see, in her time away, little Ellie saw fit to raid her dresser drawers. So here she came, dragging a floral tank top behind her. At this point, Ellie pushed herself up to a stand and toddled over to me handing me the top before leaving again. Less than a minute later, here came Ellie again. This time, she saw fit to offer me a brown onesie proclaiming "My Daddy Makes Me Smile". I guess that's a good thing right? With that, Ellie disappeared one more time.

Here's where she got really ambitious. Rather than going back to her room (and dresser), Ellie instead turned and headed towards the stairs. If I'm being completely honest, I expected this would be the final time I saw my daughter before exiting the restroom. I was wrong.

Instead, I heard a loud banging on the stairs accompanied by the sound of shaking. I knew in my head that could only be one thing. Just as I suspected, Ellie appeared around the corner once again, smiling all the while. As she turned into the bathroom I saw her prize being dragged behind her: a children's popcorn popper. For some reason, Ellie had dragged her popcorn popper up two flights of stairs just to deliver it to me in the bathroom. With no alternative, there I sat wheeling the popper back and forth across the floor to the soundtrack of Ellie's triumphant laugh.

In case you're wondering, all of this took place over less than ten minutes. I'm certainly happy my daughter wants to spend so much of her time near me. However, I believe it may be prudent for me to begin teaching Ellie a modicum of modesty. Not just for me, but for any visitors that come to my home in the future. After all, I doubt they'd be as accommodating as I am. #DaddyWrite
